View Filter for Glass to show as color

Hello,

We often need/want to show color glass only with a shade of blue in Hidden Line Display Style.

Ideally one would be able to control that via VGO applied to Sub-Categories but it is not possible.

Another option to use are View Filters. But in order for it to work we need to edit our families and nest a shared  family representing the glass panel so that it can be filtered out by the View Filter.

It works, but it is bit of a faff.

Do you know of a simpler way how to do it?

Thank you

in such a case I use to do it from Material Browser >Surface Pattern>Solid Fill and Color

or as override  from VGO

Then I made a View Template to use it for all elevations and perspectives

or as override from VGO: Model Categories > Object Styles >Model Objects >Windows (or Curtain Panel) > Glass > Material> Material Browser >Glass>Graphics >Surface Pattern and Color

Hello,

How are you able to override the Object Styles for the Surface Projection of the Glass material on VGO?

@Anonymous

The categories which are in GREY... are overriden through Object Styles... You go to VGO and from there to Object Styles when such categories are greyed out

Hi @RDAOU

Yes. I understand that.

But editing the Object Styles in that way does not make them unique to that particular view.

You would still be editing the Object Styles for the whole model file. And in that way, all glass would be showing the same way - with the new settings, true - in all model views.

The intent here is to show the glass blue for that view only.

Hey @Anonymous

I came across this post while I was reading another (which had a link to this one)... and I read only your last question on overrides ... apologies I didn't or I wasn't aware what you are actually trying to do... :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Personally I would just right click a window or curtain >> right click > override graphics > by Category or Filter...Then I would use view template to apply to other views ... it's kinda a 3 clicks proceedure!

The only thing is that the override will apply to all surface paterns in the family....(Assuming the case discussed relates to Glass Panels which were NOT nested as shared - example OOTB windows)...In such case I would rarely use surface patterns in windows/doors or inserts in general => no issues with the override of surface pattern because then the glass panel would be the only element in the family with a surface  pattern

But again I might be mistaken and thats not what you are after

Again I am really sorry I didn't read the full OP :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: my mistake

We are using the nested/shared families. Was just wondering if there was a better way of doing it.

Thank you. @RDAOU

Hello @RDAOU ,

can I ask you to elaborate, what do you mean by "in such case I would rarely use surface patterns in windows/doors or inserts in general" What do you mean by surface pattern and through which property do you manage surface appearance as view specific?
