View and View template

I have to stop people from changing the view template settings.

How can I make the view template not able to be changed.

This is driving me nuts!!!!

I tried to make the view a uneditable workset but it still was able to be changed.

You are really going to get nuts if you pretend to block people from making any changes. There has to be room for adjustments, keeping a base of standard settings. However, if you want more control, you can "assign" the view template to the view instead of "applying" it. That will force the user to click on "enable" temporary changes, and hopefully restore the view to its original state later. But, again, it has to be flexible. Standards are supposed to be a set of guidelines to achieve consistency, but there needs to be room for taking care of irregularities and special cases that you can't even predict with the view templates.

I need it to control what the final printing view will look like.

We have working views and printing views.

Where to I find "assign"?

You "apply" the view template when you select a view, do right click > apply view template... or when you use the "Apply Properties" button in the View template dialog box.

You "assign" the view template when you click on the button for View Template that is in the instance properties of the view.

These are two different actions that produce two different results. When the view template is "applied", users can change it freely. When the view template is "assigned", all the tools that change the visibility of a view become unavailable, grayed out. The only way to release the settings is by using the "enable" the settings again by using the "temporary view properties" > "enable temporary view properties". After this, the settings can be changed, but at least the user has seen that someone had intentionally locked the settings of a view, and hopefully, that moves the user to restore the properties.

Hi Alfredo,

Is there a way to restore assigned temporary view properties on multiple views at once on Revit 2017? Or does it need to be done individually? Closing and re opening the model seems to be my only option at the moment...
