I know this question has been asked before, but I'm still struggling to understand how to solve this problem.
Given the basic concrete structure and outer walls of a building, what would the best way to model a ventilated facade be?
Would one need to model the substructure too, given that it is to be seen in plans and sections?

You wouldn't have to model the substructure. You could model the façade separately. Is that your question?
Do you know that there is Revit content available on-line directly from Manufacturers? Go to BIMObject and do a search. Download some and see how "they" do it.
