utilizing Master Project File w/ linked building models (sharing details)

I have a co-worker who is working on a project that consists of several buildings on a site. I recommend that he have separate files for each building and a separate file for the site/ topography (Master). that he link the building files into the Master (site/topography )file. he was hoping to have one set of details that can be used for all the buildings.

1. is this an efficient way of handling this (each bldg. separate & separate site)?

2. how would you recommend utilizing details between buildings?

1. Yes.

2. By using drafting views for details.

as to #2.

I was thinking of drafting views as well. my question really is, is there good way to use the drafting view once as apposed to copying the drafting view into each building file? maybe somehow put all the drafting views in the master file?

Put drafting Views on Sheets in a master file. Use insert Views from File and select all the Sheets you want to import. They will come in to you project as Sheets with Views pre-arranged on them. Replace the titleblock.

that is what I typically do. my co-worker was looking for a shortcut. in that, he wanted one set of details only to share between the buildings that way if one of the details needed editing that you would only have to edit once as apposed to editing the same detail in every building file.
