Hi all,
I am new to the point cloud world and I am trying to link in a point cloud I registered and applied control points to already in Register 360.
Here is my workflow this far:
1. Revit model has its coordinates established from civil base
2. I import the point cloud using shared coordinates.
3. Point cloud aligns in correct location - pin it and save.
4. When opening the file after exiting the point cloud has disappeared, so I go to my manage tab and reload it and the point cloud has totally shifted from the established coordinates.
Has anyone ran into this problem before?
As a side note, my .rcp file has be exported twice, once from register 360 as an .e57 file and second export is from recap to export as a recap file to load into Revit - I was told that register 360 cannot export and .RCP file with over a million points so that is why I am double exporting.
I appreciate all your help!
I don't see an issue with the workflow. Should be there upon reopening.
Alternate workflow: instead Linking the PC directly, place the PC in its own RVT and then Link the RVT/PC into the Host and set up Shared Coordinates between the Host and RVT/PC.
i have used this method in the past and it works well.....

I have tried that as well and I am having the same issue of the point cloud disappearing and when reloaded the point cloud has shifted.
I think the issue is stemming from exporting as .e57 then importing into Recap to export again. Is there any way around this with your point cloud has over a billion points?
With a smaller point cloud I was able to export as an .rcp directly from Register 360 with control applied and the import into Revit was successful. When I reopened the file the point cloud was there and still position in the correct place.
1. You need to split into several scans
2. You need more than 3 control points (the more the merrier applies in large scans)
3. When we have Xlarge scans we from Recap we import and set out in Autocad before bringing to Revit
