Using spacebar as enter (REPEAT LAST COMMAND)

I was wondering if I can make the spacebar as a keyboard shortcut as 'repeat last command'?

No, space key is already assigned (hardcoded) to several functions in Revit.

You can use the keyboard shortcuts in the options menu to assign other shortcut to the command.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Why is that?

This is my biggest complaint with Revit. It always seems to stop just short of being intuitive.

The space bar as enter or repeat last command is a learned thing from AutoCAD. Hardly intuitive at all.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

...Or you can use our free Add-On: BIM Repeat Remapper.

https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=4478244053216705923&appLang=en&os=Win64&mode=previe...

It allows you to remap the repeat last command to either the space bar, the right mouse button, or both...

How's that for intuitive?

Intuitive? By definition, questionable.

Creative? Yes.

By using spacebar as "enter" or repeat command can increase your speed significant. Also I use inventor, autoCAD and revit. Inventor and AutoCAD has spacebar as enter & repeat so it slows down me.

Map a new keyboard shortcut to the Repeat Last Command such as ZZ or XX.

Spacebar is reserved for special functioning in Revit such as Flip/Rotate a family, Flip a Wall along its Location line, Flip the side of the host workplane of a family, etc... Stay away from it.

@birdtools, are the functions already associated to spacebar, such as Flip/Rotate family, affected by the addin?

And how plugins running in the background, waiting for certain actions, affect Revit performance?

@carolina.machadoIt's the only solution to achieve that functionality. I usually recommend getting used to the enter key, but old habits die hard.

Functionality related to the space key are remapped to the repeat last command and would not be functional if the tool is used. But that's configurable so they can get them back at any time. It's really a user preference, so usually users prefer the use of the space bar to repeat the last command, instead of what it is hard coded to do.

As for performance, give it a spin and let me know your thoughts...feedback always appreciated

Thank you @birdtools !

I used the plug-in a while ago and really liked it!

I just found some things that maybe can be improved:

  • When editing a text note the first time I press the space button, to create a space, it is as if I had pressed Enter instead.
  • When remapping "Mouse Right Button", it only works in the second consecutive click.

Thanks for the feedback!

We have fixed the issue with the Text Note Editing in v2.0 and you can find it on the Autodesk App Store:

Let me check the right click issue you reported and get back to you.

Hi,

Nice app. Can it be configured that spacebar accepts, for example, line lenght (when specified with numbers).

@atisklavinsunfortunately, no, as this is currently a Revit API limitation.
