Using Inconsistent Units in a Formula

Hi everyone,

I am creating a schedule that calculates the electrical loads of architectural lighting.

I have Shared parameters applied to every luminaire instance that describe:

- "Nominal Wattage" (Discipline: Electrical, Data Type: Wattage) - w/m

- "Luminaire Length" (Discipline: Common, Data Type: Length) - mm

The "Luminaire Length" parameter reports the length of each luminaire instance.

In my schedule, I want to multiply "Nominal Wattage"*"Luminaire Length" to get the total wattage of each instance but these are Inconsistent Units.

There must be a way to do this. Could you please help!

*and another thing here will be to convert the length from mm to m but maybe this can be part of the formula?

Thank you!

I resolved it myself!😅

First : I had to change the Properties of the Calculated Value instead of "Common". I used Discipline: "Electrical" and Type: "Wattage".

This allowed me to use my "Nominal Wattage" parameter in the formula.
Second: To multiply by the "Luminaire Length" I divided it by 1 to omit the formatting.

*To convert to meters I created a new Calculated Value that is "Luminaire Length"/1000 and used it in the formula above. Which actually has the same effect as dividing by 1.

Now I am facing a new problem as not all luminaires will have a linear length value.
Is there a way to default to 1 when there is no input from the parameter?

Its not clear what you have in that schedule

  1. If the Luminaire does not have a Length value, what would the current value under Length Parameter be? ie:
    • is it Blank? as in the paramerer Does Not exist in the family?
    • or ist it Null/Empty? as in you can enter a value?
  2. And if it will not be the Length, what will be uses to calculate the load of these luminaires? are there different shared parameters in those families

Can you share a screenshot of how the schedule looks like
