User Acquired Element Upon Opening Model

Good Evening All -

We have an issue where a series of items in a particular Workset become borrowed elements by users as they open a model.  I understand that the issue is outlined here:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

However, the proposed solution does not resolve the issue, nor does removing the workset.  I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences or a solution for this issue.

Do you have a start view that has type families in it?  I could see those being borrowed as soon as you open the view.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple.  Our start view is a simple drafting view containing only lines.

Do people use Editing Requests? That can be responsible for people owning elements that they think they have not interacted with.

For example, I want to work on a Wall but Susan has already borrowed (edited) it. I get a message that I can't edit it until she relinquishes so I click the Place Request button. Now Revit thinks I want the element. Before Susan gets around to looking at it or synchronizing I decide to close the model to do something else. My request is still in the queue and when Susan does Sync and relinquish elements I become the owner/borrower of the element, even though I'm not in the model anymore.

If people like using Edit Request I encourage them to Withdraw any existing requests before they close their model to avoid this situation. I also encourage them to not to place editing requests. Just ask the person to use SwC, since that's what is required 99% of the time anyway.

That was my original thought as well.  After getting everyone to clear the requests, we were still encountering the issue.

Is is a specific element each time? Specific category? Scope or part of the model each time? A view? What sort of warnings are stored in the model?

Is the user taking ownership of the workset as part of the opening process?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
