Upgrading projects

The official Autodesk solution to upgrading projects involves upgrading on release at a time.  With the new subscription service, only previous three versions are available.  This makes it impossible to upgrade a 2009 project into 2019 by means of the recommended Autodesk method.  How should I pursue upgrading a project from 2009 into my current version of Revit?

Did you try upgrading directly to 2019?

Is this a project or a family?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

I was able to upgrade to 2017, and then 2019 with an audit.  At first, the project ended up having memory issues resulting in users unable to save which may or may not be relevant to the upgrade.  I then went into the linked projects and removed all of the linked files and references since this upgrade was only needed to provide a background for an addition.  So far, we are working without issues now.

My question is more in line with official procedure should we need to revive an old project with everything included.

The current suggestion on the Autodesk site recommends upgrading one version at a time e.g. 2009, 2010, 2011, etc. This is no longer an option for older files under the current subscription since we only have access to the previous 3 releases of Revit.  I have experienced errors and lost information before when upgrading.  Is there an updated procedure in place for reviving old files that doesn't involve obsolete versions of Revit, or is there a way to access old versions of Revit strictly for performing file upgrades?

Thanks,

You've already researched and answered that.

Since your example is such a large leap to the oldest version available for use, I would try to upgrade directly to 2019 and if there were any major errors, then I would drop down to the oldest version available and go from there knowing that I would probably have to fix things.

Note: 2019 was having problems with upgrading that were addressed in the most recent update, 2019.2.

While not awesome, it sounds like this is the best solution as of now.

Thanks for taking the time and helping!
