Upgrading models.

Hello,

I have a question regarding upgrading a model so the case is :

I've received a link to download  an architectural file from a client. And my question is If I copy that file and upgrade the copy will that affect the original file that they sent me ? because I assume that what they are sending me is their central file.

Ok I attached a screenshot and what I need to know is : is this a message concerning the current copy itself ( which I made ) or somehow it will change their  central model regardless of the copy that I created.

Hope that I explained it good but I am a little confused about the Revit upgrades and central model, copies, etc.

Thank you very much.

Ivan

... and save it as a .rvt in your PC

.... that way doesn't matter  if you are upgrading it

Wait!

If this is a collaborative project and you will be sharing your model with the architect, the architect will not be able to use your model with their project unless they upgrade. Everyone on the project should be using the same version.

That sounds weird to me, but as long as you are sure that your model will never be shared, go ahead and upgrade the architect's model.
