Upgrading from Revit 2017 to Revit 2019

  • Is this true?
"Not the recommended procedure - Autodesk recommend that you upgrade through each platform to reduce the risk of "Breaking" anything."

What does it means? you can't jump straight to version 2019 , what are the issue we may encounter?

The software changes each year. This means that some function are dropped and others are added or changed. The bigger the difference between the versions used the more differences in code. So at some point the functionality might have changed so much that the conversion does not work anymore. Converting from version to version might avoid the problems.

Problems occurring might vary. It can be that few of the families will not upgrade and break or that connections are broken up to that the project will not open at all. The more complex the family/project, the bigger the chance of issues. A simple family could have been made in Revit 2009 and still open without issues in Revit 2019.

This is one of the reasons that companies often start and end a project in the same Revit version or that they take quite some time to upgrade to the next version(lots of testing)

So when upgrading you will need to have a strategy of the route to follow. First of all make a backup of the family/project in the originating Revit version. If it is something simple you could just upgrade to the latest Revit version and see if there are issue and do some checks. For more complex projects you might consider to do the upgrade more gradual. If you have a backup you will always be able to step back.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Hi  Mr. Lou Maas Thank you for your reply.

We are still in discussion about upgrading the softwares, becuase of the tools that been added to version 2019 and I think it make benefit with our Tunnel Construction projects especially in the Reinforcement., we're started mid last year (2017) and the project will ended estimated in 2023/2024.

Again, thank you.

Are you asking whether or not the published recommendations are true?  I would just ignore any such documentation and proceed as you want.   After all, what's the worst that can happen?

Good luck.

I get that. I also get that you are asking a question similar to: should I wear a rubber?  I say ignore the advice and do what you want. What's the worst outcome that can happen? A dependent?

Just saying.
