Update object style of nested detail items

Hi There,

Our office builds door families with a detail item family nested as the plan representation of the door swing. This is for consistency and speed of making new door families.
Currently the detail item linework is using detail item object style. I want to update this to be specific to doors (Door Panel, Door Panel Swing) so it can be controlled independently in the project. This is so we can dash the doors swings in an RCP.
I would like to just update the detail item family, reload it into the project and all the doors that it is nested into update automatically. This hasn't happened. What is the best way to update the nested detail item family in the doors library?

I'm hoping it's not one by one. Is there possibly a dynamo option?

The office is on LT, bar 1 machine.

Thanks for your help.

Add subcategories to Detail items families.

HI Toan,

Thanks for the reply. I have been able to complete that step successfully and load it into the door family & project. The issue is that multiple doors exist in the project which have this detail family nested, but they do not all update when the updated detail item is loaded into the project.

You need to load the updated Detail into the Door Family AND reload the Door Family with updated Detail into the Project Browser.  The only way it would work by loading the updated Detail into the Project is if the Detail Family was Shared.  Sounds like it isn't or those Door Families are using another Detail - or maybe none at all.  Maybe the Swing Lines are drawn directly in those Door Families that aren't changing.

Since shared detail families cannot be used in model families so you would need to open each door family and reload the detail families, then reload the door families in the projects.

Another way is not using detail component families, but shared generic model or even door families to draw details, then nest them in the main door families.  That way you only need to update the nested families, reload and all doors will be updated with subcategories.
