Hi All
I need some urgent solutions to a Revit roadblock I have hit. Here is a breakdown.
Here is the problem. I need each of these Doors, Windows and Curtain Walls from each linked instance to read a unique Mark per instance. So for example if on Level 3 I have 5 instances of Unit Type A, and a Window in this Unit of Type Mark W01, I want each window to read a unique Mark per instance. So if I have these Unit Type A's on multiple floors, each floor must have a unique Mark:
example Mark: (Level 3 = 3-001, 3-002, 3-006, 3-009, 3-019), (Level 4 = 4-001, 4-002, 4-006, 4-009, 4-019), and so on.
I have been trying everything I can think of, creating instance parameters in the Shell model, shared parameters, searching forums....I am running out of options. Does anyone have as good solution on how to get the above Mark instance to be unique for each instance placed?
Thanks in advance for any feedback/advice/solutions.

The only thing I can think of which you can use is the Revit link Name parameter in the schedule.
I don't understand the dilemma. The Link Project's Mark Value is not useful in the Parent Project. Why would you be referencing it? How are you referencing it?
Hi, thanks for the feedback and sorry for my late response.
Correct, the Link's Mark is not useful in the Parent/Host project, however we need to tag these elements by:
from the linked instances within the parent/host project on each floor plans.
If there is a way of doing so and assigning these Marks in the Parent/Host project that would be 1st prize. The tricky situation here is that these Marks must be unique to each floor (as each project is linked into the Parent/Host project and copied multiple instances on each floor and across each floor in the building.
For now, I am using each Revit Link Name in the Schedule with a combined parameter of Link Name+Mark. This is all well and fine for the Schedule however that combined parameter does not tie up/show up on the tags on the floor plans for that element instances. Maybe I am missing something, if there is a way to have that Link Name reflect with the Mark from that link in the tag I would take that.
If there are other solutions please I would be open to it.
Hi Mirko
Thanks for this solution, I have set up the Schedules like this with a combined parameter for the Link Name + Mark. Works perfect for the Schedule. But on the Floor Plans I need it to reflect in a tag as well, or something similar in the tag.
If you have any solutions as to how I can have the same combined parameter of Link Name + Mark (for each element instance) show up on a tag, that would solve the problem totally.
Hi Toan
Thanks for the suggestion, I am going with this.
If you know how I can set up my tag to show that Link Name + Mark in that tag, or similar, that would really solve the issue. I have tried what ever solutions I can but am coming up with no luck on that.
For tagging, create different tag types with different prefixes in the label.
Unfortunately, no. Those parameters will appear in schedules but not in tags.
There is one idea I have, but it's not "BIM", I don't like it since it's manual and prone to errors but it better than nothing:
Create multiple tag families (or tag types) with unique prefixes, and tag doors, each link instance with appropriate tag.
Also, tags do not support instance parameters so this approach may end in many, many types or families.
I am attaching sample of such family.
The result will be something as shown in the picture:
