Underlay Element Display

I am trying to understand how to control the display of elements in an underlay.  In this example I have a door and window at level 2.  Then on level 3 I have the level 2 plan shown as underlay.  Unfortunately the door and window in the underlay don't appear on level 3 like they do on level 2.  The view range for both plans is set the same so it seems like the elements on the 3rd floor overlay should follow that same view range properties, cut plane ect... but they don't.

You could get there with a Plan Region and Element Overrides (for Halftoning), if you really need that lower Wall/Door to show cut in the View.

...would the "Look Up" representation be acceptable?

View range of the view is irrelevant to that of the underlay. The latter has a view range of its own which cannot be changed.

The best you can get out of the underlay is the below...However, you have to note that what is showing is not the opening created by the insert, but the Detail Component nested into the window family

What is the purpose of the exercise you are trying to do? Underlay might not be the tool which you need
