I am not able to load family files into Revit 2017.2, even through the Insert - Load from Library - Load Family tab. We are working on a product that requires steelcase products so need to be able to load these into a project.

Easy way - don't click on Architecture>>Component.
Instead - Insert>>Load Family.
What category do those families belong to? By any chance do they belong to a category that has been turned off in VG?
Are you in the right phase?
Are you in a turned off Workset?
Look in the families - by any chances is there a visibility parameter that has been turned off?
Are there Filters set up in the view template?
Have you tried opening the family and clicking "Load into Project" ?
Okay, I checked VG - They are a part of the curtain panel category and that, among everything else is checked to be visible.
I haven't even created worksets in this project, haven't gotten that far into it so that shouldn't be the issue. As well as there are no filters applied or a view template currently on the project.
Share files. Share the destination project and one of the problem families. Without this we are only guessing.
Here is the Project and a family file I am attempting to use.
Here's why - the family that you have sent me is a curtain panel.
Create and select a Curtain Wall>>Edit Type>>Curtain Panel.
When you click on Curtain Panel, you will get a drop down with all your families listed there. Select the one you want to insert.
Here is what I would do - drop a curtain wall of the right size into the regular wall. ANY kind of curtain wall. The select the curtain wall, go into Edit Type. In Edit Type you will see Curtain Panel. Click on the drop down for that. All the Curtain Panel families that you have loaded into the project will show up there.
In the Project Browser - right click on the family name and click Edit. That will take you to the family, which you can then edit.
Okay so, I'll have to edit the family itself in the project browser -- then it will be placed as a curtain wall system? You would think there would be a much simpler way to do this so they actually work as the wall system that they are supposed to.
One of the disadvantages of curtain wall doors, I'm afraid.
Strange. So it's basically because of how the family was originally made? If I were to want to change materials on the same door lets same placing it in two locations, I would have to duplicate that family, change it's properties/materials and make a new "curtain wall?"
