Unable to establish direct link between Revit and Twinmotion

Two days ago i was able to successfully open my Revit model and use datasmith to directly link the Revit model (2023) to TwinMotion (2022.2.3). After making a change in Revit and hitting synchronize Revit gave me a warning that read "datasmith cannot export 3d view, the referenced object is not valid" and would not populate changes in TwinMotion.

I then went and updated to Twinmotion 2023 and Datasmith 5.1 to try again. This time i could not even establish a direct link because no connection could be found. I then went back to Twinmotion 2022.2.3 and left Datasmith 5.1 installed. Again, no connection is found.

The cache folder is not in a temp folder. I am indeed trying to establish the direct link in a 3d view. I don't believe porting is an issue since i was able to establish the connection the first time.

I am stumped please help.

Thank you.DirectLinkSettingsPromptBoxImage.png

Having exactly the same issue. Any help would be much appreciated. I feel it was something to do with updating to Twinmotion 2022.2.3.

Just curious if either of you are using a local of a centralized model?

We are using ESET security.

Hi,

I was sucessfully able to synchonise between "Revit 2022.1" and "Twinmotion for Revit 2022.2.3-Revit" using Datasmith 5.1.1 today. If that's any help.

They, Ureal, say to uninstall any prior Datasmith installations between upgrades (or downgrades) with Twinmotion versions btw.

I was in a cloud model.

I ended up upgrading my model to Revit 2024 and using the TM plugin.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I hope you have it sorted.

I found out how to do it: I had DataSmith 5.1.1 Installed as the 3dsmax 2022 Udatasmith exporter. TwinMotion 2022.2.3-Revit doesn't support DataSmith 5.1.1 yet. TwinMotion for Revit lags a few months behind Unreal Engine 5.1, it just takes time to trickle down the software chain.

TwinMotion for Revit is about a year behind Unreal Engine daily builds.

I'm running all the latest versions at home. Well, only the ones that support a GTX760. TwinMotion and Revit still support them. Max 2024 too 🙂

Tldr: DataSmith 5.0.3 works when exporting Udatasmith file types from 3DSMax 2022-24. 🙂
