Unable to delete rogue Viewport Title

I have been trying to delete this Viewport Title, among others. The others were easy to delete. I've renamed this and removed the family in order to isolate it. This one is the Incredible Invisible Viewport Title -

Untitled.png

1) can't see it in the Browser

2) can't see it in Purge Unused

3) when I apply it to a viewport, select all instances in project, and then delete the viewport it still doesn't go anywhere and it still does not show up in Purge Unused.

To cut a long story short, it's going nowhere. Help!!

I struggled with the same a while ago and back then the result of a discussion between multiple Revit specialists concluded that certain default viewports are "hardwired" into Revit and hence cannot be deleted.

The "solution" is to use this/these (if you accidentally copied the hardwired viewport, copies will also be hardwired) as your default company standards.

I guess the "solution" (or fix if you will) in your case would be to copy the viewport settings of one of the viewports which you can delete to this one, delete the viewport you copied the settings from and then use this instead.

I would love to be proved wrong, but this seems to be one of those tricky Revit issues which just are how they are 🙂

Hello @Anonymous, I've tried the exact same process but it isn't working.  I have approximately 5 unused viewport title types.  I tried duplicating and renaming them.  Only thing I changed in the settings was changing 'Show Title' to No instead of Yes.  When I do that I am able to delete the duplicated version, but when I match settings to the original it still will not show up under purge.  And I'm positive no other views in the project are using the viewport type because I'm double checking with Ideate Explorer.  I'm using Revit 2017.  Any other ideas to delete these old viewport types?  Any help appreciated, thanks 🙂

Do a search for PyRevit...it's a free add-in and it allows the ability to purge those rogue view title types.

Also you can create fill pattern types...so it is very useful.
