I would like to import or link a CAD file I have into Revit 2016
When I click the respective buttons under the Insert tab the screen all buttons become greyed out and clicking anywhere on the screen creates a standard 'error sound'. The only way to exit this state is to press ESC.
When I use any of the other Link/Import options a browse window appears that allows me to choose the file to insert. My issue with inserting CAD happens at the point when this browse window would appear. (It is not appearing)
I have tried restarting my computer, using different files (both new and old) and have just uninstalled and reinstalled Revit and am having the same issue.
I should possibly add that Revit itself would not uninstall through conventional means. After browsing the Forums for help I had to download a third party software to force uninstall Revit. (The only accepted solution shown on Autodesk forums for this issue.) I reinstalled using Virtual Download Manager - The first time it stalled on content libraries, the second time it was unable to initialise. I was able to install on the third try.
Upon reinstalling I no longer have access to templates such as architectural or construction and my original issue of being unable to link or import CAD remains.
Any guidance on this matter would be appreciated.
(Wiping my laptop and starting fresh is unfortunately not an option at this point in the semester)
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
Thanks ToanDN!
The issue did appear similar to when the windows disappear off screen (Especially as I disconnected my second screen during this session.) However I have not had any success.
Prior to seeing your reply I reinstalled again and can now again access templates.
After restarting my computer and following your advice and the advice in the link you provided I am still unable to access the browse window when linking or importing CAD. It just greys all menu options out and registers an error if I click anywhere until I use ESC.
(Again for some reason it's only the CAD, I can link or import any other option)
Okay it is now working so I will post it here in case someone else has a similiar issue:
ToanDN was right - the browser window was active but not visible.
When the window doesn't appear press Alt+Space.
This will open a small menu where the hidden dialogue box is and show you to which side it is falling off.
For me it was falling off to the left of my main screen while the additional monitor is located to the right.
I went to display settings and temporarily rearranged my screens in the setting so the extra monitor was to the left of the main laptop screen. The window was now visible on that monitor. After reversing this rearrangement to match the physical arrangement of the monitors again my link/import windows now fall within the same screen Revit is open on.
Thanks for your help ToanDN!
