Most probably you started a structural column but trying to load an architectural column family (or vise versa)

There are two folders for posts/columns. One is simply called Columns and the other is called Structural Columns … make sure you are loading from the right one

How do I load an architectural post? When I click columns they seem to only
be structural.

When you go to architectural tab > Columns and click the drop down arrow, you should have both options Structural and Architectural

I don't think an architectural column is appropriate here. Turn on Structural Columns category and place a structural column:

When adding a structural column in a floor plan, play attention to the option bar and you want to change from Depth to Height.
