I recently updated the Revit 2018 on my computer, and now when i try to save a new project it says the "failed to open document" followed by the "file cannot be saved". I do not know if it has to do with the update or my computer.

Ouch. Could be a corrupted file. I'm assuming you made changes/additions you don't want to lose. Have you tried saving it under another name? To a different location? Do you have enough disk space? Do you have links in the Project that you can unload before saving? ....
If you've already closed the project without saving, I can offer some other suggestions.
I have tried saving under a different file and a different folder. It will not let me save a new project or save changes to projects I am already working on. I also have a lot of free space on my computer. I don't really know anything about links.
It was a problem with my computer settings. My computer was trying to control the folder access. Thank you for the suggestions to try and help me fix the problem.
Ha! I was just going to ask you if this could be a permissions issue.
Glad it work out for you.
Cheers
