Trouble setting up project file with linked IFC

Hello.
I am using Revit 2016.
I am trying to set up a project file for electrical systems (cable trays). I am having some headaches with getting a linked IFC/RVT model working.

As the end result I need a model with cable trays and linked building model.

Here's what I tried and what I got:

1) new project (default electrical template); added ifc file as a link

Result: ifc content shows up only in 3d view. No matter what I do, cannot get it to show up in 2d plan views.
From elevation view, copied new levels at appropriate elevations. Tried making new 2d views from View -> Plan Views -> Floor Plan.
View is created, but the ifc content is not visible. Adjusting view range or visibility options did not help.

2) new project (default architectural template); added ifc file as a link

Result: ifc content is visible in 2d views as well.
This way I was able to create all the needed floor plans. Then tried to place cable trays.
Cable trays were displayed jagged and wrong. In 2d views as well as 3d views.
This is what I mean, when I say it looked wrong:

3) new project (default architectural template); added ifc file as a link

Before linking the IFC, I placed a cable tray. Cable tray looked fine and as it should be.
Added the IFC file as a link.
Now the IFC content is not visible nor in 3d views, nor in 2d views.

4) Opening the IFC with Revit directly

After some waiting and few errors, Revit manages to open the IFC.
Saved it as a RVT file. Opened new project file for my cable trays and tried linking the newly created RVT file.

Result: same as if linking the IFC. Linked content is visible only in 3d views and I can't get it to show in 2d views.

Please help?
I've already spent many hours trying to figure this out and testing with different options.
How can I get the linked model to show up in all my views (3d and 2d)?
Or are there some settings in the linked file that are preventing it to be displayed in the host file?
As it looks to me, there is something in new-project-template settings that is preventing this particular linked content to show up in some needed views (with architectural template the content is visible in 2d views, with electrical template - is not)
The IFC file in question: here

Any ideas?

so you have several problems:

1.  ifc file is over 1 million feet away from 0,0,0 (I turned on the survey/project base point in 3d and moved the ifc to 0,0,0

2.  default elevation views in electrical template file does not give extents control (i deleted and recreated the elevation views)

3.  visibility graphics override for linked files may need to be adjusted (i left the plan and elevation views set to By Host...you may want to change to By Linked)

See attachment.

i created a new revit project based on electrical template file....all should be good for you now

Thank you very much!
The IFC was created by some other company. So I'll let them know the issue.

Could you please tell me, how did you move the ifc to the precise 0,0,0 base point? I assume you didn't just drag it in-place?
So I would be able to solve similar issues in the future.

for now...I just dragged it close for you...wanted to get you the gist of the solution asap.

To move the IFC file to 0,0,0:

1. Go to Plan View and create a datum marker (model line crosshair).  Draw this crosshair exactly where the 4 elevation markers are pointing....it should be the location of the Project Base Point and Survey Base Point (in a default project)

2. Go to a 3D view to see your IFC file.  Then, draw a very long model line from an entity in the IFC file out somewhere....

3. Turn on the Project and Survey base points in the 3d view

4. Zoom all to fit (this will show you the proj/survey point far away and your IFC model very tiny with a very long model line attached to it

5. Move the IFC model close to the project/survey base point with your mouse

6. Go to Plan view and move the IFC file exactly where you want now that it is within range of the proj/survey point in plan view

Hi @sedconsultingltd, verify you have "Select Links" checked under the contextual tab of the "Select" functioning located under the Modify Panel of the Ribbon within Revit.
