On a floor plan which shows the elevation markers, composed of the square and the triangles on each side of the square, when I click on of triangle now I see the single straight line indicating where the elevation begins but I do not see the lines of the dashed rectangle that I have seen before in previous floor plan work. (I believe that the dashed rectangle indicate the extent or depth of the elevation, is that correct?.)
Now I forgot how to restore these dashed lines so they could be seen.
Can any body advise how to make these dashed lines show when the triangle is clicked?
Thanks in advance.

Check the Elevation view Extents properties for Clipping with line versus No Clipping. This activates the view "depth"

Yes, it is called the "Far Clip Offset"

Thanks for your graphic explanation, it worked.
Wonder why to make this rectangle of the extents window with the dashed lines visible requires so many steps, which are easy to forget, when obviously it can be more convenient and quicker if done directly on the floor plan where the elevation symbols are already located.

How many steps are you counting? I my example:
1. Select the view in the floor plan view;
2. In the Properties window, click the clip button ;
3. Select the type of clipping in the window that opens;
4. Click Ok
This essentially the same method for changing similar view parameters such as the view range in plans.

If Revit gave you a hypothetical context menu command for doing this when in the elevation view, you would still have to:
1. Select the view and right click to the context menu;
2. In the context menu, click the clipping option;
3. Select the type of clipping in the window that opens;
4. Click Ok
The only quicker way would be to have a builtin toggle like the section reverse icon that shows up when the section view is selected in plan. But in my opinion, it better not to clutter the drawing views for the sake of convenience. Revit is a complexe program and choosing which functions are easier to get to than others is a thorny issue. ![]()
Your only consolation is that the view depth is visible and directly adjustable with the dashed line and grip when the right conditions are set. Otherwise you would be forced to adjust the view range only as numerical value in the view properties window. When it doesn't show up, Revit is alerting you that the view is constrained by some other setting and hopefully was intentionally set up that way by another user for a specific reason. One example is a view range constrained by a scope box.
Good luck ![]()
