First off, toposolids are a great improvement over the previous method but.... this new feature is hardly ready for prime time truth be told. I'll spare everyone my list of complaints that I have I but would definitely like to address a big one that has me abandoning my current workflow / visualization in 2024.
The UV mapping in Revit is atrocious and has been for a long while but the lack of any decent texture wrapping has reared its ugly head once again when it comes to these new toposolids. Typically, I will pull an aerial image of the site and apply it to the topography for easy visualization and a more informed design process while working in 3D. With this new toposolid, all the the split up polygons have their own "random" maps and orientations so a large texture gets quickly turned into a kaleidoscope (see the linked imagery). This has always been the case since the introduction of "modify sub elements" of floors/roofs and now these new toposolids are suffering from it too (which they have a lot in common with). Usually its not a big deal to shift the textures around with their patterns but it is a fools errand to even attempt it on complex geometry.
Like I mentioned, big improvement but not all cases considered. I don't consider my use-case unique but this does point out the lackluster material mapping in Revit for sure. If anyone has solutions, I am all ears but Revit 2024 has thrown a wrench into what I have been doing for many years for many projects when it comes to topography.
On a lighter note: Revit 2024 is again demonstrating that Autodesk is continuing to iron out the oddities and fill in the missing features (albeit rather slowly) so I definitely look forward to what 2025 brings... Better text editing/tools maybe?
This is a serious regression for our customers. Our product (Cetopo: https://cetopo.com) currently provides perfectly textured terrains using Toposurfaces, but now with Revit 2024 we would no longer be able to do that. The Toposurface seemed to treat all faces as flat, projecting the texture onto them from above, while the new Toposolid treats each face according to its slope, resulting in the texture-mess that is seen here.
A solution is needed that lets us create textured Toposolids in the plugin API.
Until then we will provide the un-editable Toposurfaces as a workaround, and would probably have to recommend that our users don't upgrade to Revit 2024.
That's a massive issue for which I have no explanation creating a major issue when using aerial views for creating CGIs.
Would be good that someone from Autodesk would respond, potentially provide a solution please...
Yes Autodesk, Could you please fix this. You have a ton of 3D software packs, please include a method to map. We use satelite imaging on toposurfaces and this has been ruined with the toposolid.
