Toposolid link major errors vs topography link accuracy

As an Update to this post the latest 2025.2 release still does not accurately represent TopoSolids links from Civil3D.

In Revit 2024/25, the new TopoSolids feature creates extremely poor geometry representation of published topography surfaces from Civil3D. I have compared the Revit 2023 Linked Topography with the 2024 Linked Toposolid from the exact same file, and the difference is quite clear.

Previously, the Revit 2023 method and topography link method produced near perfect topography representation, matching IFC tin and DWG surface export data. I'm wondering why the perfectly working topography link feature was removed? It's important for users to have the choice of creating a toposurface or a toposolid.

In the infrastructure space, we regularly use TopoSufaces for flood model surface levels, existing survey surfaces, and road designs, all through the workflows with civil3d published surfaces. The current workaround is to publish the surface, open it in Revit 2023 to establish a topography, and then upgrade it.

Solution:

  • Provide option for Toposurface or TopoSolid
  • Restore original functionality of Revit 2023 Toposurface to later versions of Revit.
