Topography Schedule w/ split topography

I am trying to create a topography schedule for a complicated pool project. I have tried using building pads, but my cut/fill only comes out to the volume of the building pad, excluding any cut above the top surface of the pad or fill below the bottom surface of the pad. So I tried to split the topo into separate sections instead. I have checked everything, my phases are correct, and I’m using the grading tool, but my cut/fill keeps coming out as zero for all but one of the split surfaces.

What are you trying to do?  A Cut/Fill schedule that will report the amount of earth excavated to accommodate a pool?

...if so; it's all about Phasing: Existing vs. New Construction comparison (e.g. topography before and topography after).

 

Use this workflow:

 

1. Create Topography in Existing Phase with Phase Demolished set to "None".

2. In New Construction Phase, "Create A New Toposurface Like The Existing One". The tool is under "Graded Region" on the "Massing & Site" ribbon. 

3. While in New Toposurface sketch mode; move, remove and change point elevations to define your excavated area for your pool.

4. Close out of sketch mode and note that the New Toposurface contains Cut/Fill data relative to the Existing Toposurface, which is now showing "New Construction" (automatically changed from "None") for its Phase Demolished. 

 

P.S. The Split Surface tool just creates a separate toposurface. You can use the above workflow with a Split Surface too.

You don't need to split the surface if calculating cut/fill is your goal.

- Create the topo under Existing Phase

- Go to a New Construction Phase view, run Grade region and choose create a topo exactly like the existing

- Create a Building Pad at the bottom of your future pool and the Cut/Fill will be reported

@* The example below I created a 10' L x 10' W x 1' Thick building pad, placed @ 9' below the top of topo, to demonstrate a 1000 CF cut volume.  It came out 1000.05 CF but it is close enough.

I swear to you, I am using phases correctly. For some reason it isn't working with my split surfaces. They are definitely set to existing, I am definitely in the correct viewing phase, I am definitely using the grading tool. Building pads don't work either.

The problem is that I need to use split surfaces because I have some lautner edges set up where the soil sits on top of the pool wall. I still need a cut fill report all along the outer edge of the pool walls, but for rendering purposes, the soil needs to come up to the water's edge. I can't do this with a single topo surface, so I need to split it.

Do all the grading and padding BEFORE split the topography surface, right?  @barthbradley
