If the two parallel walls are close enough together a simple join of the walls can do the trick

that's great,

u mean that if the walls are close enough then i don't need to add a void to the family?

ok, if so, what is the definition of (close enough) how can i control the tolerance or range ?

and what if the walls are not close enough? what can i do to make my family effective ?

thanks for ur reply, u added a great information to  me

Yes, correct. I believe the maximum distance is about 150 mm. This distance is hardwired in Revit and as far as I know can not be controlled

Depending on your project other alternatives might be:

-Make use of a wall opening.

Wall Opening.png

-Create a single wall definition incorporating both walls.

-Create a face based family consisting of a void and place that on the other wall.

I used Screencast (free from Autodesk). you can find it HERE.

All else failing - add a void to your window family. Use the Cut command after inserting the window. It should cut through the other wall too.

Attached is an example of a door family with an opening cut to cut the host wall AND a void to cut the secondary wall.  After place the door you have to perform Cut geometry to cut the second wall should it be too far from the main wall in order to join.

p/s: when someone says you cannot have both an Opening cut and a Void in a door or window family, don't believe them.

@ToanDN

thanks a lot for u both, specially for @ToanDN as i used ur family to learn what is the problem in my family, i discovered that the problem was that i used reference plane to adjust the void distance, but u used reference line, i don't know what is the difference between them but ur method worked and mine didn't

when i modified my family using a reference line the problem get solved..

thanks very much

Did you try the family in my file? It's hard to tell how you built the family based on the video. Can you share it?
