Titleblock Family - Send text to back

Hi everyone,

because my floor plans needed to be divided in 4 Sheets, i need to write in each one (on bottom, top, left and right) where to find the "missing parts". I would like to do that placing 4 pieces of text and referencing the number of the next sheet in this text. Is there any clever way of doing that? Here is what i am trying to do:

I created labels in the title block Family that copy the sheet number as I want to keep part of it (Level Information), and covered the rest with an opaque text. The text would be linked to a visibility parameter and everything should work perfectly fine...

The Problem is: even though the Family Looks perfect in the Family Editor (label Background is transparent, text Background is opaque, text over label), once I load it into the Project, the label jumps in front of the text (??). Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it?

Why not use match lines and view references on the plans?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Maybe i don't understand very well how the reference view works, but that would be my problem:

In this configuration:

A B

C D

Nr. 1. One still needs to manually select the "missing parts" under target view before placing the tag, which means one could still make a mistake and place for example View B under A instead of C under A. As we are currently dealing with a very big project (hundreds of plan views) and nobody will have time to check this kind of details (that are nevertheless important) I prefer to completely automate the process.

2. Say I have 60 Floors, then I place the view references in floor nr. 1. I can't just copy paste aligned to selected views because the tags need to be referenced to the new targets one by one, right? Even if i am very careful and don't make any mistakes, it will still take me a lot of time. I am currently trying to avoid dynamo because we already have a lot of graphs going on...

3. I know that C always comes under A, D under B, B to the right of A and so on... I thought I could use the Sheet Number, that already contains the Information A, B, C, D plus Level and automate the process with visibility parameters: For example, for the bottom reference: If sheet number contains A, then the reference should be C, or if sheet number = XXXXXXXXXXXXXX_00_A, then reference number =XXXXXXXXXXXXXX_00_C. What I want to do is keep the sheet number and cover the last bit - A - with the letter C (if A, then C, if B, then, D). I know it sounds complicated, but this way XXXXXXXXXXXXXX (type, as in floor plan, ceiling plan, area plan...) and levels would get automatically updated, the hundreds of sheets would automatically create the references and we would have less to no chance of typos... This works perfectly well, the only problem is that the text (which is opaque) covers the tag with the sheet number perfectly well in the family editor and doesn't do the same in the project file....

3. This way i could place the text with the reference outside of the crop region, in a "clean area". Reference Views can only be placed inside, so either i choose a big tag, or it kind of blends with the rest of annotations and is not that easy to be found (the annotation crop area still has tons of grids, so it's still not as clean as I would wish). That's the least important, but still...

I am not very sure this is the best solution for the problem, my goals are basically 2: allow the team to work fast and avoid typos. I would be happy to get other suggestions, or perhaps there's something more to match lines and view references i don't know?

Cheers!

From what I can see, the human error aspect will still apply with your workflow, as the user has to choose which label to make visible.

The typical workflow here is to create 4 dependant views, each cropped to the relevant size.  Insert match-lines where the views relate to each other.  Insert the View references - they appear blank, but as they are placed on sheets, the labels will populate automatically

the user doesn't have to choose which label to make visible as the visibility is linked to a shared parameter through an if statement formula in the family. The problem with the typical workflow is that i would need to select the view references individually in each dependent view - as I have over 200 views, I would have to do it over 200 times...

Do it properly using match lines and view references. Match lines only need to be drawn once and they show on all plans just like grids. View references can be copied pasted to multiple levels and changed to different target views. Otbis basically a one time deal. The argument that you don't want to do it 200 times because you have 200 sheets makes no senses. You have 200 sheets then you need to work on 200 sheets. Do you not open each sheet and annotate the views?

Did you ever find a satisfactory solution?  I am having a similar problem with a watermark inserted into my title block. (as shown in https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/screencast/Main/Details/307...)  the watermark is blocking plans and views, though schedules typically move in front of it.  I can't find a way to make it print transparently or make the whole title block print behind the plans and views.  If I could push it to the back that might be acceptable too.  I didn't find any of the feedback to your original question helpful so I'm hoping you found a way.

Watermarks are not the same thing as matchlines and view references. Watermarks have been discussed a number of times in this forum. Not sure if any of them have solutions but that's where you should be looking for an answer or you can start another thread about watermarks and have the ability to mark a solution if one present gets posted.

Thank you for your reply.  You said watermarks had been discussed many times in the forum.  If you know of a post that addresses making them transparent or making title block push to the back please share the links.  I spent an hour and a half and didn't find anything that showed how to do it.  (I realize that the match lines became the central focus of the discussion but the post title is "Titleblock Family - Send text to back" which is related.  Sorry for any faux-pas.)
