Thinner roof at gabels

Hi, I'm struggling with creating a thinner end on gable roofs. I have the normal roof surface to 
the inside of the end wall and then a thinner roof over the gable which I associate with the 
normal surface. Is it possible to remove the line in the joint between the surfaces?

Or is there a better way to achieve a roof with thinner end projections ?
