So I'm working with a door family. I make up a framework door family to nest into the primary one in order to manage constraints. I try to align my door panel sub family with a strong reference line in the framework family and I get the error message shown in the "screenshot (13)".
It won't allow me to proceed even though I'm abiding by the intent of the message.
The philosophy of having the software being smarter than the user is a major thorn in my side.
Thanks,

Probably faster solved by seeing the family. Want to post it?
....straight out of the chute though: I don't think your nested family is hosted to the Ref. Line Work-Plane.
That error message appears when you align and lock lines geometry elements in your family (lines, circles, arcs...) to other geometry elements instead of aligning and locking geometry elements to reference elements (reference lines or reference planes).
Yes, I know. Unfortunately, it comes up also when aligning and locking nested family geometry to reference lines in another nested family.
When using doors It is sometimes useful to have a separate plan and model swing opening amounts. The nested framework family idea come from Paul Aubins's ideas in Classical Revit.
Since this morning I created a door family from scratch and was successful. Why, I'm not sure, but I'm just too aggravated and tired now to bang away at this. The message comes up when aligning and locking, but it allows me to proceed and it works as intended.
Thanks,
