Revit Error: "The project cannot be saved because the user name you are using is not the same as the user who created the local file. Open worksets dialog for more information."
Scenario 1 is not working, the error pops up before i can get into settings.
What have I done? I synchronized as usual. I haven't done anything different when closing or opening the file.
What is causing this problem?

hello, find out who created the local file, then change the name from option or just create a new local file from central file. thanks
As explained above, you can change your username even before opening the local file. Simply click the Revit-logo -> Options -> Change username in the box here.
you opened a local model with a different user name. you cant change your user name while in the model, you have to do it before. Open the file, detached from central, and resave & close. then open the model and make sure the "create new local" box is checked.
When I saved a central file with another name it became a local file and this is why I run into this error.
I am receiving the same error because I changed my Autodesk ID.
The project is a shared project on BIM 360 and I am not the owner - so I must be signed into Autodesk when opening the file.
'The project cannot be saved because the user name you are using is not the same as the use who created the local file. Open the Worksets dialog for more information.' My attempt to open the Worksets dialog is interrupted by the original error again, 'This Local File has been saved by user 'name.1', current user is 'name.2'. Please change your user name or stop working on this file.'
Please recommend a solution that does not require saving as a central file.
You will need to follow these steps to get the model to save...
No, this solution does not work. When I go to save I get the error. I don't have the opportunity to select any options as you've described.
We are at a dead end here and now have lost work.
Please explain what your problem is, what you have tried, and your project environment.
I've run into the same issue. I'm in v2018 and opened the file using 'Revit properties', created a new local file in the process, overwriting my previous one. I have made modifications and am now not able to save back to the central file, nor save a copy with a different name. It says that I am not the user who created the file, which is not the case - the software mistakenly thinks the local file was created by someone else (I suspect, going by the username given by the worksets dialogue, the last of my colleagues to open the file).
How about opening a second session of Revit and open the model as that user, and relinquish?
At a minimum, you should be able use that "new" local model as a guide to redo your work.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, I had to admit defeat and quit without saving, as I wasn't prepared to risk losing any more work and needed to get on. I couldn't even save as a separate local file. It is the second time I have encountered the issue. I'm not sure if it is to do with the way I had opened the file (from Windows, using 'Revit properties') or our server structure or a combination.
What does that mean? Did you right click a file and choose open with Revit? If so, I wouldn't do that. Instead, Start Revit > Open > point to the central file > open with Create a New Local box CHECKED.
One thing I didn't try (which might be worth it, if anyone else encounters the same issue) was to save the view I was working in as a new file. If it worked, it probably would have been a good workaround for me, particularly as most of the work I had done had been view-based that day.
This may preserve some of your work but you would need to transfer it to working file, might just be another can of worms.
Sorry, it's one of the CTC Express tools, which allows you to interrogate an RVT file in Windows to see which version it is, whether it is a central file, etc - see below. Using the 'open in' button opens the correct version of Revit and prompts you to create a new local file in the same way as it would when opening the file from within Revit. I have never had a problem with it before.
I had the same problem, and solved it in the following way:
If something were to go wrong, you can undo step 5 by changing it back to the original location (C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit by default).
These steps will create a new local file with the new user name.
