The Header Discussion Continued

I'm curious how others are handling headers for Doors and Windows. I have been drawing beams over the openings but it is a sloppy process. If I move an opening, the header does not move with it. The upside is that it looks right in my roof plan with discipline set to structural and I can tag all the headers, create schedules, etc. I've spent days now trying to nest beams into window families and get them to work as they should. In every attempt, there has been at least on aspect that doesn't work in one form or another. 

The things that I need to accomplish is the ability to change header sizes, tag those headers, have them appear over the openings in a structural view, and have them move with the openings.

With a lot of the world using Revit for architectural design, I know there has to be a simple and logical solution to this.

All you have to do is upgrade to 2021 and use the one I created for you. Haha. Otherwise, you can always place headers above each opening and use the align tool to lock them in place in the center of the wall. When the wall moves, the beam moves.

@zeulrick, Lol. I actually did upgrade yesterday and spent a little time with the families that you made for me this morning. I have to admit, I didn't try to tag the headers, I just remember you saying in the other thread that the way you did them, they weren't tag-able.

I also did a little experimenting with trying to align and lock the headers to the top of the windows in an elevation view, but that didn't seem to work.

The projects that I am working on have a lot of design options, in those options some of the windows change in width and header height. This is why it's kind of important to me to be able to set it and forget it so to speak. To be able to change the window and not have to worry about anything other than making sure that the header size is correct. 

I tried to import a structural framing member into one of my own window families this morning in 2021, and got the error "must use families of the window family category". I don't know, I'm beginning to think that what I'm trying to do isn't completely possible in Revit and I may have to go back to my old ways.

The way I created the header in the window family you gave me, it will be taggable. That family should work well for you. It worked well as far as I tested it. Don't go back to old ways and get discouraged. There is a way to do what you're trying to do.

That's great! I will delve into it a little deeper. I assumed that it was not tag-able just based on your previous comments, I should have tried it. I have a few projects to work on before I get back to this but will try it out and post here if I hit any road blocks. Thanks a ton for your help @zeulrick!
