Good day. Got this problem with rte file "The file cannot be opened. There are too many elements missing in it". Topics on Russian forum didnt help. Sorry for my english.
Hi @Anonymous,
We have just had the issue at work and there is nothing to do.
Are you working on a shared model or a single copy?
If working with a shared model, try opening a new copy from the central model, or open AND DETACH a local copy from another workstation.
If working on a standalone model, just open the latest automatic backup (file finishing with a ".0014" or other number next to your original file).
In any case, your file will not work again.
This bug usually happens when there has been a writing error during saving.

Seen similar situations arise - maybe your problem is one of them.
1) Isolate a reliable backup
2) Delete your backups, local files, etc
3) Run a search on your drive for the Temp folder (click the Start button, in the search window type in %temp%)
4) Clean your Recycle Bin.
5) Restart your computer
Your file should open now. If not, then take the reliable backup that you have isolated and use to to replace the central model.
Have you tried to replace the Central Model?
If that did not work, then I would create a service ticket with Autodesk, so that someone can take a look at it
Does the file work correctly after replacing the central model?
Sometimes with time files get corrupted.
1) Have you tried opening with Audit checked?
2) Do this - right click on any family in the Project Browser. Click Edit. Does Revit allow you to edit the family? If it does not, then try reloading clean copies of the family from your library or project folder. Repeat with all families and then try again.
