Hi everyone,
In my company we are looking for a PC or laptop that makes it possible to open huge 3D files in Revit, without the lagging and ''not responding''. As we are in Europe, we are unable to buy BIMbox and BOXX.
Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks ![]()
You don't need to buy something overpriced like BIM box, you can just build (or have built) a PC with similar hardware. All they do is select off-the -shelf hardware and assemble it. There is no magic to the BIM box.
it is a bit different for laptops since they have integrated design, but you sure can find something similar.
Cooling (or lack thereof) is the most important to actually use the hardware's power. Especially laptops, but also some desktops, have poor cooling and throttle under real load. IMHO, no laptop will work well just because of that.
You can buy from any brands that are not too obviously shady and can give you customizations:
- CPU: latest greatest
- RAM: 128 GB
- Videocard: Top of the line Quadro or GeForce RTX 3090 Ti
- Fastest Biggest SSDs, RAID 10 configuration for hi-speed + redundancy
- Big wattage power supply
- Liquid cooling
- No RGB LED lighting - it will not improve Revit performance
You ought to tell the people in charge over there that a good resource might be your Autodesk Reseller. Most resellers do hardware as well. In fact, in my neck of the woods, hardware and consulting and training are the reseller's bread and butter.
