Hi I am struggling for a couple of days with making this roof dormer (Attached photo). If i make a mass i cannot save it from sketch environment. Is there anybody who has has great ideas that could work in this situation. Thank you in advance for your help and time. 🙂

I dont see the image but I can give you two types of solutions Draw the two roof shapes overlapping. Then join them. Cut vertical opening from the main roof and then reshape the dormer roof to match opening.

The other way is to do the same but by using a extruded roof profile as opposed to a drawn roof.

In the rush it seems that I forgot to attach the photo. I tried to do that but maybe I am missing some information/knowledge either I am streching revit more that it can handle. Either ways is not the right shape or I simply cannot save the model from sketching mode. This small dormer ate my time for the last couple of days and I am so close of giving up or turning to other software ...

In such a case I'd prefere to use a combination betwen a Roof by Footprint and a Component Model in Place> Roof> Swept Blend

The Complex way would be:

.Make the shape in 3d CAD but preferably Rhino

.Export the surface from Rhino to *.SAT file

.Create a massing family and import SAT to it then Massing to REVIT or Create Mass in place in model then import SAT file.

.Apply Roof or Floor to Massing family / element

Creating an in place Family Component Using Sweep Blend

.This is good as well just remember that with the sweep blend works smoother if you have the exact acmount of elements on each profile.

Using Mass Tool

.Create two Parallel planes (Front and Back)

.Give them names 

.Draw Profile using construction lines and not model lines (allows for flexibility)

.Parametrize if you like to

.Create a surface mass shape instead of volume

.Apply roof or floor.

I tried the same way to draw it before. The only problem is that when i try to go out of component sketching mode it pops up this error: ´Can't regenerate Family Roofs 2. Edit Family to modify it.´ II think this happens because some vertices do not go the right direction but as much as I try to fix them they seem like they won't cooperate. Thank you so much.

After talking with some colleagues we also considered the Rhino method. The only problem in this that i never opened it before so truth to be told i tried to avoid it as much as possible. I will definitely try the massing way, cross my fingers it works. 🙂 Thank you so much for your help.
