Text "live-linked" to details

Does Revit have a way to link text to a detail reference? An annotation such as "REFER TO DETAIL 3/A2.5" will get lost if it's not linked to the detail.

At the risk of using the "A" word, ArchiCad has the ability to set an "autotext" reference in a string of text so the text will update live when a detail it refers to is moved to a different sheet or renumbered.

Any similar feature in Revit?

Thanks for the help, Jeff

Yes.  Just make a copy of the view reference family and add a text to it.

I thought this was in the works....but that was years ago.  Guessing the updated text editor broke it perhaps.

But yeah, it would be nice to have for schedules that specify details.

You can do this kind of thing with a "View Reference".

http://help-staging.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2020/ENU/?guid=GUID-A2E20369-8B83-4BE8-A4CF-2784D66F9A6A

You need to basically create a text element that has some room for the reference and then place it into the right spot. It would be nice if it was all part of the text tool, but you can do it with a little manual manipulation.

Yeah, this is my old AutoCad workaround, but it sure is nice to have it work inside the text string.

OMG Autodesk please fix this. We miss so many text detail references in our keynotes and it's a problem when we move things around. This is logical and should be very easy to implement. Get on it please!! 🙂

If I had a nickel for every time someone said this without being able to do it themselves, I'd be rich.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
