Text leader shoulder won't stay straight

A very peculiar thing is happening in one of my files. We use text with a straight leader + shoulder. Normally we can draw the leader to the shoulder, and then create a straight line to the text. In this one file we draw the leader as we always have, type in the text, and it skews the shoulder so it isn't straight anymore. See the attached image. I can't find where to fix this.

I have looked at a 2016 file in our office as well as a 2018 file. Neither one has this issue.

Full disclosure it was a Revit file that was upgraded to 18 from 16, but we re-transferred all standards in from a 2018 file once we were done upgrading, including text.

Any ideas?

And... this is after you've tried to adjust the leader (select text, grab point on leader, align as required)?

Not an uncommon style of leader. You can always step back, click on the leader and drag it into place.

Even when you start the leader - you will click first to place the arrowhead, second click to place the angle, and then you should make the line snap to a horizontal position before you make the third click and start the text.

Al else failing, please do share the file that this behavior is observed in. If you can't share the exact file, save a copy and strip out everything else so that we can observe the behavior and arrive at a solution without guessing.

I am aware we can adjust the leader after the text is made. We make the line snap to a horizontal position before we click and start the text, but once the text is finished it "unsnaps" to a non-horizontal position. In the past, it has always remained straight once the text is finished - on every other project I've worked on in the past 10+ years. All the text parameters are the same between the problem file and the file that's behaving properly.

It's frustrating my team because it's on every single instance of text that they place no matter the text type, view type, etc. and this has never happened before. It's not normal Revit text behavior and when you have to note an entire set like this it's a problem. Constantly adjusting each leader adds a lot of time to a project that's 100 pages or more.

I can't post the files, but could send them via PM or some other file sharing method that isn't public.

Just post a file that has an instance of the text that shows this behavior. Again, if you strip a copy of your file down to just this, that would be the best option.

Does this happen on other files too?

Try transferring Project Standards from a clean new file.

Transfer from a clean project doesn't fix it.

Transfer standards from this project to a new project to salvage what you need to keep and use the new project as the working file.  Get rid of this one.

I have tried Transfer project standards from a fresh project where the text behaves normally and it doesn't fix it. Unfortunately I can't delete the text type and bring it back in as we're already in DD, and I can't move everything to a new file. It's too far along with too many people working in it.

What I don't understand is why it just started happening in this project. It is a Collaboration for Revit project. It's also a joint venture project so there's another architecture firm working in the file with us. The rest of our files throughout the office haven't had this issue - including other Collaboration files.
