Template and material libraries are not loading.

When using Revit, I do not have access to any family templates or a full materials library. I tried to change materials but it shows a small list of materials and they are all grey. I then tried to trouble shoot it by following the forum on the Autodesk website. The steps on how to trouble shoot this problem is listed below.

To download from local content
1.  Select Uninstall/Change.
2. After the install wizard launches, select Add/Remove Features.
3. In the dialog, select the libraries to install, and click Next.
4. After the libraries finish installing, click Finish.

Once I click Uninstall/Change, there is no option to select Add/Remove Features. I was wondering if someone could give me some help on trying to add in the material and templates library?

Thank you for that link! I finally got rid of that error and was able to load a template. I am still having trouble trying to add materials to things. It still shows a very small selection of materials and they all show up as grey.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you check that all of the material Libraries are loaded on your machine.  I'm not sure which version of Revit you are using, so start here, C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials

Then open the folder for the version of Revit you are using.  You should see a list like this...

Hey Joe,

It seems to be that all of the material libraries are loaded onto my machine. I followed the same path as you provided except I am using Revit 2020. But it showed the same list of materials. I thought maybe the library folder is being pointed to the wrong spot within Revit so I also tried fixing that by following this step-by-step shown below.

To define paths to the content

  • Open Revit.
  • Click File tabOptions and click the File Locations tab.
  • Click  and enter the desired default project template.

Project templates are located here: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\<product><version>\Templates\<units>\

    Example: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2019\Templates\US Metric\

Note: The Program Data folder may be hidden. You can display it by adjusting your Windows settings to display hidden folders.
  • Set the Default path for family template files to this location: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\<product><version>\Family Templates\<language>

Example: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2019\Family Templates\English_I\

  • Click the Places button.
  • Set the library path for the Detail Library to this location: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\<product><version>\Libraries\<units>\Detail Items

Example: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2019\Libraries\US Metric\Detail Items

  1. Click OK.

Once I followed this, I tried changing the material on a table and when I open up the materials within Revit it still looks like the screenshot I provided below.

Hi @Anonymous

It does seem a little light on for material definitions.  if you open the Library Panel, "Up Arrow" at the bottomof the Project Material List, which Libraries do you have?

I had to reinstall Revit on my laptop and when I did the Materials Library did not come in and there is a message when I first go to the Revit page that looks like this: and it won't past the screenshot. It is asking for a template file and there is nothing in the browser.

I don't see a list like this. Should I just uninstall and reinstall the product REvit 2019?
