Takeoffs from a pdf file?

Is there a way I can import a PDF file into Revit to get measurements/dimensions for takeoffs?

If not is there any specific software that would work for this, that I can also use to create floor plans?

thanks

Hi

1. When you open a PDF, you can measure any distance using Tools within PDF..

( Adobe acrobat, reader )

2. You cannot import PDF in revit..

3. You can export PDF in JPG, import that JPG in Autocad  ( scale it as per drawings ) and link that CAD in Revit..

Now you have a scaled reference and you can measure whatever you need in that drawing.

Cheers!

If you have Bluebeam, it has a good set of tools for dimensioning and area calcs PDFs.

If PDFs are vector based, you can open them in Illustrator and export to DWGs.  Then link DWGs in Revit, scale them properly to trace the plans.

If PDFs are raster based, export them to PNGs and import them in Revit, scale properly to trace the plans.

Now I get it! I couldn't figure out what the OP meant. Now it makes sense. You're smarter than me, @Corsten.AuSmiley (fröhlich)

See! You even got @ToanDN jumping in on the bandwagon. He probably read this post this morning like I did, and was wondering the same thing. Smiley (zwinkernd)

Occasionally I need to produce a new plot plan from an existing survey.

so using this method, I can let's say...

scan a physical survey, creating a PDF.

               transpose to a JPEG.

                     import to AutoCAD

                         scale the image

                              trace the image

resulting in a fairly accurate plot plan in AutoCAD which I can then link to Revit?

That's a better  than what I was been doing it.

I need to get individual room dimensions from  floor plans (sent as PDFs) to estimate carpet/wall paper quantities needed.

Thanks

Thanks a lot. Appreciate the Solutions suggested.

I am a newbie to field ( Revit, Bluebeam, AutoCAD) and am trying to figure out the tools I would need to get my job done.

You can also bring a pdf into autocad, scale as needed, import the linework as objects then link the linework .dwg file with Revit.
