tag linked files

Hi all,

At my work I have to create structure drawings for houses starting from an architectural model. So I split up the house into different structure walls, beams, structure floors, ... all elements that can be prefabricated. Every element I give his own number by using the mark or comments field in the properties.

But what happens a lot that we have the exact same model house but in mirror formation or exact copies.

In case there is a mirror model I use his opposite model that I worked out and copy the file and mirror the whole house what works. But on a lot of sheets I create we use tags to represent the mark, comment info. In case it's on a 3D view sheet the tags are not mirrored. So I have to replace them manually but also I need to rename some elements because in the mirrored file we have to give new nr's to the elements.

So this all manual work that takes some time even if the global model is the same.

And for example once all structure models are worked out and there is a change I need to work on all the models to make the same change.

I was thinking if I could use links for my copied or mirrored models so I only have to work at one model if there is a change to be done.

But the big problem is that I cannot rename some elements on a linked model what I understand.

But I was wondering if there is no way to edit this tags on a linked model maybe by dynamo? Even the possibility to put extra information after the existing comment tag, mark would be great if it's not possible to change it?

Regards Andy

I would create two different Tag families.  One with the label reading the data from the tagged object normally (A).  Another with a special prefix or suffix, such as 'm' for mirror (B).  When you Tag in project, use (A) on non mirrored objects and (B) on mirrored ones.  Make use of naming your links to indicate mirrored conditions to easy to identify which is which.

Thx for the reply. But I'm a correct you mean you're using these 2 tags in the main model? And by naming your links, the Name field in the identity data properties?

1. Yes, use two tags.

2. The names of link instances.  Revit normally gives them 1, 2, 3, etc.  You can name them as Link1, Link1-mirrored, etc.

Ok, thought it was this  🙂

But I think this way by 2 different tags cannot help me exactly what I wan't.

Let's say in the main model I have an element with mark 'A1'and in the linked model I wanna have for the same element 'A2' for example? Or 'A1-nr house'. So not by using similar tags between the main and linked model.

Maybe I'm not so clear 🙂

The mark of one object cannot change.  My approach is when you tag it from a non-mirrored link, the TAG reads A1.  But when you tag it from a mirrored link with a different tag, it reads A1m (A1 must be there; m is the suffix built in the Tag family, but it can be anything).

Ok, I understand. But this brings me to one last problem. My intention is to set the link at custom so I can set on each sheet the section, floorpan, ... similar to the sheets on the main model. So I can see on this way all my dimensions, text, ... too. If I let the linked file on host I can indeed retag with the new tag but all the rest from dimensions, ... is also away.

Yes. It does not matter how you link display: by Host view, by Link view, or Custom. As long as you can see the objects you can tag them.
