Hey,
I'm trying to build a tag that has a grey background that will resize based on the text. I have tried to make a filled region but I can't lock it to the border in the family. Is there a better way to do this?

You would need to create different TYPES as Tags cannot have INSTANCE properties.
I want to resize the grey background based on whats in the text box. So if there is one line of text or four lines of text the grey background for the tag will resize accordingly.

No you can't. The only things flex with the text or label content is the white opaque background and the text border.
If you want a gray background, either use a longer box that fits any label content, or have different types with different sizes. Both ways suck.
If I'm following correctly---
Lock the sketch lines of the region to the boundary lines of the tag box.

I can lock the filled region boundaries to the tag box, but unfortunately, the size does not change with the label/text.

Is there a way to ask Autodesk to fix this. This will take me forever to make different types for all my tags. I just need them to make it so the box around the tag will be allowed to be a filled region.
