Hi Revit Users,
I just wonder what frame material parameter to use for and how?
I have applied material parameters all parts of Doors, such as door panel, frame, hardware and glazing.
Then I have noticed there are system parameter named frame material and finish but they don't allow me to associate with material list.
so ... how am I supposed to use them?
As I checked there are no system material parameters for windows.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Yuki
For the OOTB door families, they are Type parameter . You can edit the families and make them Instance in you want to change the frame material per Door from the Properties.
@ToanDN thank you for your comment.
Yes. I know how to set and apply material parameters in the family but even though I deleted the preset material parameters and made other material parameters by myself, there are still frame material and finish parameter in "project". Can you check them again?
Thanks,
Yuk
Are you wondering about the "Finish" Instance parameters? They're default Project Parameters of the type "Text", not "Material and Finishes". We typically fill them with Theme names via a Key Schedule.
@barthbradley Yes, so frame material is also for that? I have noticed it is text but didn't think of key schedule.
Are there any reasons why only finish and frame material but not door panel material or glazing material are prepared as project parameter by Autodesk?
thanks,
Yuki
Frankly, I've never been able to figure out why "Frame Material" is in there. It seems odd to me. Might be so deep in the hard coding, that it's impossible to mine out. Just speculating. My relationship with Revit only started in 2008.
@ysautodesklover: you can use the Revit Paint Tool to apply "Materials and Finishes" Parameters as paint "finish" to surfaces of geometry. Are you familiar with this workflow/concept?
