I'm looking to buy a new machine for Revit 2020. System requirements still note: "Multi-Core Intel Xeon, or i-Series processor or AMD equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended."
I'm finding limited options for SSE2 (as I understand this is an older instruction set) but cannot find any information if SSE4.1 is compatible. Intel customer support only helped so far. Can anyone help clarify this requirement and if I can use specifically SSE4.1?

Looks you are specification very good. here is the reference from auotdesk
I will reply for all your questions after i finished this presentation but now i can tell you Revit consumer for cores and the most important factor Base Ghz min 3Ghz this is good and u can use both AMD or intel for sure Xeon more smart if you buy Dual processor if you buy 1 you will have the ability to upgrade when u need and this don't consume more money just you will buy the processor only, Intel i think it's very good with games because it focused on the speed of first core but AMD more smart in this it have fair number of cores and all working in the same time that give you the best processing in you project, and the value intel is expensive but AMD have the price for performance it's good offer.
Thank you for the question @Anonymous and welcome to the Autodesk forum!
The text about SSE2, is tied to the preceding text about AMD equivalent:
In the past there were some AMD processors that did not support SSE2, and this would cause errors for Revit.
Regarding confirming support for SSE2, I found the following superuser thread on this topic with info on a utility that can be used to check the SSE versions supported by the CPU):
