Synching when the network is failing

Our network keeps going out.  So far it hasn't happened while in the middle of a Synch.  What will happen if it goes out in the middle of someone Synchronizing?

Also, this is only happening to some of the folks.  If they start a synch and it fails; will they be able to do it later or will that wipe out others work?

Hang on to your locals. What you describe sounds like the perfect scenario for the file to get corrupted.
