I am having a problem with a model where after I sync, it doesn't automatically relinquish my owned elements. If I look at the Sync and Modify Settings, the option to relinquish stuff is grayed out. I have to manually relinquish my items after I sync. I've seen this on one of my coworkers machines before, but I could never figure out a solution.

You may have a workset checked out. In the workset dialogue from the collaboration menu, ensure that you have the worksets that you wish to relinquish set to not editable. This will make you a borrower rather than an owner, so that when you synchronize those elements will be relinquished. Hope that helps.
I have the same issue - whenever I go to sync none of the relinquish boxes are checked nor can they be. I cannot figure out how to enable relinquishing elements through the sync dialogue box rather than needing to relinquish all as an independent command.
No worksets are checked out. All are set to not be editable.
This happens in multiple projects, possibly all projects in my office. I just started noticing this error and have yet to check multiple projects. We infrequently have multiple users working simultaneously. I've now noticed that the relinquish elements box is greyed out in both revit 2015 and 2104 projects.
Thanks for any help! I'm stumped!!
did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem-- when I go to sync, all options for releasing elements are grayed out. Not finding a solution yet.
Hello
Revit will ask to Relinquish if any of the worksets are " Editable: Yes"
If you keep all the workset as " Editable : No " then revit wont ask you to relinquish anything
after saving to central..
Give it a try and you will get a clarity how workset, editable and relinquishing works..
Cheers
hey guys, dug a little deeper.
Anytime someone in my office tries to open a Worksharing file I've recently opened, they are unable to create a new local file. They then get a message that says "detaching this model will create an independent model. You will be unable to synchronize your changes to the original central model." After accepting comes the message, "Cannot be opened - incorrect schema"
I've gone through every solution on this page and none worked yet, tried a few other solution threads also:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...
I've uninstalled and repaired Revit, restarted my machine, made all worksets in-editable in all the files I'm working in.
No solution yet. Any ideas?
Hi
Last time similar problem I faced was due to the different "Revit Build " in different users,
working on the same central file..
Build number should match for all the users to have a smooth workflow as far as I know..
this is just one of the Checks which might be the issue..
Best of luck.
Cheers
I am experiencing this same issue. Everything is set to "Not Editable", I am not an owner or a Borrower of any element or workset. so it will not allow me to relinquish. However, it keeps telling me I cannot relinquish because the file has not been saved... but this is confusing since I literally Synced & Saved multiple times but it still throws up the same error
I am working in Revit 2018 and using BIM 360. No other users are experiencing this issue. But nothing I edit can be saved or synced with the central model... even though the sync & saving still goes through, i keep receiving this same error.
I'm sure everyone on this thread has already figured out what they needed to figure out, but I thought I would add my situation and solution, in case others had issues relinquishing worksets while synchronizing.
I ran into the issue where it continuously was not relinquishing one of our user-created worksets. Everything was set to "not-editable", and the "Borrowed Elements" checkbox was checked, everything else was greyed out. When I changed the workset to "editable", then opened the sync dialogue box, the "Borrowed Elements" checkbox was no longer checked (because I changed myself to Owner, rather than Borrower), and the "User-created Worksets" checkbox was no longer greyed out, and unchecked. By checking the checkbox and synching, I once again went back into the worksets dialogue, found that specific workset that wasn't relinquishing as relinquished, and changed back to "non-editable". It may not fix the problem for everyone, but it seems to have fixed the problem for me.
I am on Revit 2021, with a BIM360 model, for those wondering.
Hope that helps someone who runs into the same problem.
Interesting that this still has no solution posted...A few of us at our company are just now having this problem too. Haven't had the issue until we started using 2020rvt, but I see multiple versions in the above comments. Has anyone found a solution to this yet?
I don't believe there was ever an "official" solution. But I would try a handful of things.
Good Luck!
It is a little bit late, but maybe you are still interested in a solution:
Go to the collaborate menu and press the "Relinquish All Mine" button.
