hi,
i'm trying to make a vault model, but the groin vault is not sattisfieing. i need to make the vault as it has been constructed. i need to substract from all 4 sides a 'zeppelin' shape, wich is defined by two different partial ellipses, along a quarter ellips path. aint no thing, as long as the two profiles are not touching. but this is exactly what needs to be done. how can i achieve this? i tried in a massing environment, but i am not able to create a form with those same profilesthe actual vault
the sketching
profiles not touching=ok
result when revolving the profile around the edge of the mass
parametric groin vault (width, lenght, height, offset) working fine!
For your problem, a 3D shape involving 3 different ellipses, there is no solution with touching edges.
You can fill the remainder with a "flat void", of limited dimension, to get a fairly good approximation. (blue in picture)
hi,
i guess i figured that one, but this is not satisfiing.
i mean, opening up revit you see this blob architecture thing, but creating a pure geometric form is not possible?
i've been thinking of using your answer, but putting the resolve path just outside of the volume...
still, it is a bit ridiculous creating this classic shape is not possible....
but thank you for reading and thinking on my issue.

I don't think a swept blend will work.
With swept blend:
For an elliptic "inner"path, the "outer"path won't be an ellips. see picture. (orange line is halfway.)
So you have to use the massing environment.
