Structural Views

Hi,

I have a building with a steel frame.  What is the best way to view just the actual steel frames?  I know I can look in each structural floor plan level at that particular levels parts and hide the parts not required to be seen, but I would like a 3D view like you get when you click the House button for the default 3D view - so I can rotate and zoom in.  I guess the Camera would give me the 3D view but not the rotate/zoom element?

Turn off all categories, except the structural ones.

  • For 2d views of the framing see the floor plans/framing plans.
  • For elevations of the framing at grids, create new Framing Elevations at grid lines.
  • For 3d views,  click on the icon of the little house.
  • To orbit use Shift + W to open the navigation wheel, and use the Orbit tool.

Thanks for the reply but I think you might have mis-read my post as your answers are basically what I have already written?  What I was after was a second 3D view ( like the house button one so I can zoom in and rotate ).  I want to be able to show the building in 3D as a whole and have a separate 3D of just the frame so I can amend that if necessary without having the rest of the building around it.

I think I've just found it -

View Tab

Duplicate View - then I should be able to hide elements I don't want to see.

OK. I am glad to see that you have found the solution.
