structural span tag

I took the OOTB structural span tag and made it non-associated.  Is there another way to adjust the length of the tag instead of changing the length in the properties?  I'm looking for the grips but I can't add any reference planes.

Not sure I understand. "Fixed" type behaves (scales)  like Annotations. Just set the height you want it to be.

You can not grip stretch annotation elements, gotta do it via properties.

thats gotta change.  should be able to stretch the span as needed.

BTW, reason i did that is b/c i didn't add a beam system and was trying to figure out how to add the tag without the system which i was able to.

thank you both.

...but it's an Annotation.  It's sized to the view scale like font size is. In other words, if the Span Direction Symbol's Top, Bottom, Right and Left Type parameters are all set to 1", then the Span Direction Symbol  will be 48"  at a 1/4"=1'-0" View Scale, 96" at a 1/8"=1'-0" View Scale. etc.
