Welcome to the forum.
Some things that I can think of:
1) The structural model link is there, but the file is empty.
2) The view(s) in which you are trying to see the structural model is (are) set up to show a different phase.
3) The structural model link is off in the view.
4) The structural model link is hidden in the view.
5) The structural categories are off in the view.
....
Can you post the message you got here?
Since you mentioned it says something is out of range, is it possible that the linked model is positioned differently from your architectural model?
First thing I would check is the discipline in the view. Make sure it is set to coordination. Have you looked in the 3d view? Normally that view is set to coordination by default. Turn off the crop region in the view and zoom to fit. Check the project base point in the structural model and link origin to origin. If that doesn't work try center to center. Check the structural model to see if they are using shared coordinates. Check the manage link tab to make sure it shows up there and is loaded. Check the VG of the view to make sure it shows up under links and is checked under visibility.
There is no reason to copy model objects and place in a new project. Can you ask the structural consultant what's up with their model?
Cheers Peter.
