Stretched text on PDF print

Having upgraded to an ultra wide monitor recently (5120x1440) - all of my print to PDFs are stretching my text and ruining my drawing standards/clarity. This first happened only int PbP mode (picture-by-picture), though now happens at full 5120x1440 also. I spoke with the publishing tool developer, and they do not experience this despite using ultra wide also.

Has anyone else had this issue, and potentially if they found a solution? I have upgraded all my drivers and installed the latest PDF publish software (bioPDF) with no improvement.

I am printing sometimes up to 50 drawings a week and starting to get complaints, but currently have no way to fix this without changing all my text fonts width factor, to possibly compensate for the stretching.

I've attached a recently example, where the text is stretched. There are instances where text is even more stretched but I am unsure what increases the severity.

Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.

Generally, one of these things will resolve the issue

General things to check
• Verify that the ttf font is installed. Reinstall the font

Fonts printed properly previously
Sometimes other installed updates will change the way things plot, in which case the issue generally resolves itself with the next update.
• Reboot the machine
• Reinstall the font
• Disable the Hdi Scaling on the task server for each version of Revit (See instructions on last page of document).

Font Substitution Settings
The default out of the box standard font in Revit is Arial and tends to be the chosen standard of most firms.
If you are using a driver with font substitutions, you will want to go into the Printer Settings and verify that the font is set to Do Not Substitute.
• Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers
• Right click on the printer and select Printer Properties
• On the Device Settings tab adjust font settings as needed under the Font Substitution Table

Other Things to Try
• All users Windows display scaling should be at 100%
• All users should be on the same build of Revit including the Task Server machines (This should always be the case, ideally, including consultants)
• Try a different PDF driver.
• Open the Revit file, do the fonts look correct, if not that means the font is not installed and is being substituted.
• Is the PC was connected to a KVM Switch (Docking Station)? Is the monitor powered off?
o Try turning on the monitor and select the KVM option which will allow you to see the Desktop working environment. Restart the PC.

How to Disable the Hdi Scaling
This needs to be done for each version of Revit
• Windows 10
o Right click on the Revit icon and go to properties, Compatibility tab, Change high DPI Settings, Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by System.

I have found that FancyZones is causing the issue when at 5120x1440, removing the application from my programs has solved the issue. Though when using PbP mode (3360x1440), I still get dramatically stretched text. I think this may be due to the resolution not being native, as a more common would be 3440x1440, but I am unable to set this in my display options via the graphics card or on the monitor. Adjusting PbP to 2560x1440 yield a positive result, and the text is returned to normal.

Revit does not seem to like any non-native or uncommon display resolution. As a result the print affects the text regardless of PDF writer software. This appears to be the only issue I have encountered so far after 6 weeks of continued use at 3360x1440.

I am considering setting up another monitor to drag Revit onto for printing. This would be easier than constantly switch PbP on/off using the monitor settings, as it disrupts all my window locations, sizes etc and makes a choir of resizing & relocating, especially without MS FancyZones.

I have the same issue with Samsung 49" Odyssey G9 5120x1440. When PbP is ON and the monitor is spited on two monitors with two cables, the text is stretched, width factor of letters is on 50%. When PbP is OFF everything is fine.

Hi All, I had same problem with my DELL U4924DW 5120x1440 monitor. Also using FancyZones. My solution was to set smaller monitor to be Main display. Just make sure that you restart Revit after changing this setting.

TIP: If you play your cards right, you may get one more monitor from your boss. Good luck 🙂
