stop revit from filling in instance parameters for new instances

Why does Revit fill in instance parameters for a new instance of a family, based on the instance somewhere in my project?
I place a new instance of a family, through my project browser:

But the host id and link id , which are 0 by default in the family, get filled in based on some other instance somewhere else in ym project??

This happens because Revit sometimes retains the most recent instance's parameter values as a convenience feature, assuming that subsequent instances might need similar settings. After placing a new instance, manually reset those instance parameters to their default values (e.g., 0) before making any other modifications.

Well Revit assumes wrong, don't you think?
There's a family default value for a reason..

Is there no way to disable this?

Hi @MVE1112,

This was answered a few weeks ago

When starting to place a family, the instance fields are visible on the properties palette.

When those are filled in before the family is actually placed, those values are re-used for every instance you place of that type.

So to reset it, start placing the family and set those fiels to a empty value and hit enter. No need to actually place the family after that.

Now those fields should remain the set "empty value", filling the values in AFTER the family is placed will not have affect on later placed families. (that only reserved for some builtin parameters like "Mark")
